I joined the dance faculty of Spelman College in 1988. Since then, I have served in various teaching and administrative roles and have been honored to have contributed to the growth and development of many wonderful African American women. I have developed and taught a number of dance history courses (including The Black Presence in American Dance, Women in Dance: Sexism, Sexuality and Subversion, Black Dance and Popular Culture, and Choreographing Lives: Women’s Auto/biography and Dance) and my class, Contemplative Practices and the Arts. Earlier in my time at Spelman I also taught various dance technique and composition classes, and choreographed for our dance company, Spelman Dance Theatre.

I am a gifted teacher, priding myself on continuing to learn new pedagogies and technologies to help my students grow as learners and as people. My teaching informs my facilitation and vice versa. Because of COVID-19, I learned the pedagogy of online teaching. I began teaching online during the summer of 2020 and am very comfortable with teaching in a virtual space.
